Hotels in The Lake District

The Lake District is the largest national park in the country, covering some 885 square miles in the county of Cumbria.

An area of outstanding beauty, it is a hugely popular destination for climbing and hiking. Popular destinations to begin your trek are Penrith in the north, Kendal in the east, Eskdale Green in the west, and Ambleside, a major tourist destination in itself. The area is home to a family of lakes and fells created by glacial erosion; this landscape has been much changed by man’s occupation since the Stone Age. The woods have all been cleared and dry stone dykes abound, and makes The Lake District a romantic, windy retreat.

When booking a hotel in The Lake District, you are spoilt for choice. Beaumont House in Windermere has true 5-star modern accommodation with free Wi-Fi, but you could hardly tell from its beautiful Victorian facade. The Castle Green Hotel in Kendal was winner of the ‘Cumbria Large Hotel of the Year 2009’ award, and when you drive in through its large and well maintained grounds it is easy to see why. Having been created on the site of a 19th century gunpowder works, The Langdale Hotel and Country Club in Chapel Stile has a great past that has been preserved well.
